With this excursion you will reach the summit of Mt Etna, the highest summit in the Mediterranean sea.

It is important to specify that only Alpine Guides and Vulcanological Guides are, by law in Italy, the professionals who can take you trekking to the summit of Mt Etna and Stromboli. They are trained for this kind of excursions and the risks involved there for they collaborate with the National institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia), elements that can make this experience safe and unforgettable.

For your own safety and for your loved ones do not adventure with improvised guides.

Details

From the Rifugio Sapienza parking area we will take the cable car and the UNIMOG 4X4 of the Funivie dell’Etna to rapidly ascend till 2.900 m.a.s.l. from where our trekking to the summit of Mt Etna will begin.

Once at the Torre del Filosofo area we will be gaining about 400 m uphill to get to the crater rim, in approximately 1h30min.

According to meteorological and volcanic conditions, the Guide will decide the preferred path to lead you down for a total drop of 800m, where you will be able to admire the Barbagallo craters, listen to their recent history, admire the Valle del Bove slowly arriving to the cable car station to get back down to the parking area. A nice walk down hill on different lava soils.

Please note: Meteorological conditions, safety conditions related to volcanic activity, and other variables, can effect the chosen path, and or the whole excursion could be cancelled/postponed.
